This week we released XenServer 6.1 with some amazing new features for data center, cloud and office workloads. Rather than extol the hot new features or all the progress we have made in the product (we have and the amazing hat engineers on the team XenServer), I thought I'd share another side of the significance of this release by highlighting some recent evidence of XenServer market traction.
outside Xen and XenServer domination in Citrix desktop virtualization solutions and in large public clouds (Amazon, Rackspace, SoftLayer, 1 & 1 ...), XenServer also sees increase the absorption in the corporate data center. There was the sound increasingly in the industry about the trend in the second supply hypervisors such as server virtualization market is maturing. While recent data show that 50% of servers are virtualized, it also revealed some changing trends in which suppliers are selected solutions for virtualization projects move forward.
maturing market can do funny things to a product segment. As long gaps disappear, differentiation of products and blurs the list of platform selection criteria suddenly becomes much smaller, Price, product maturity and support the primary deciding factors departure. Earlier this year Tom Bittman of Gartner blogged about the Top 5 Server Virtualization Trends in 2012, stating:
"Imagine how the virtualization market would be different if the trend of server virtualization began today ' hui. the contest VMware has improved greatly in recent years, and the price is becoming a big differentiator. businesses that have not yet started to virtualize (and they do exist, but tend to be low ) have real choice today "
based on our experience and new research from Aberdeen -. Is the hypervisor market expanding or contracting? The tendency to multi-hypervisor data center is very real and Citrix is the primary beneficiary. XenServer as free downloads crossed the 1 million mark, we are witnessing a large influx of new users and second sources outs construction virtualization. This is directly evident in the Aberdeen research, showing that Xen / XenServer is present in an equal number of companies like VMware and the highest assessment rate as the second hypervisor, 50% higher than any other hypervisor.
"Xen is present in an equal number of organizations such as VMware. While the share of firms reporting Xen hypervisor as the primary is only 18%, an additional amount of 32% also reported using Xen and 31% said the estimate for future deployment. the 31% assessment rate is over 50% higher than any other hypervisor, which means the presence and share of Xen market should grow in coming quarters. Amazon Web Services and Rackspace, for example, both use Xen for their virtualization platform. "
It is clear that the function of war is over and the next 50% of servers are virtualized, there will be an emphasis on value. While XenServer 6.1 has great new features that have been proven technological leadership, Citrix has ever swung a commitment to making XenServer the leader in the value of virtualization. It is the leadership value that is driving the next wave of adoption and we welcome users who are new to virtualization, and VMware customers even test the new XenServer 6.1.
