NetScaler 10: What's new in the security -

NetScaler 10 has already created a lot of buzz with amazing abilities - TriScale, Action Analytics, DataStream Improvements and more - that were introduced . And indeed, our marketing team has done a fantastic job of creating buzz using multiple media. Beyond all the hype, there are many features that often go unnoticed, but are very much part of the real meat that NetScaler offer. With the cloud era ushering to heights even more - apart from all the technology cloud activation, security becomes a key factor as well. NetScaler is a comprehensive WAF (Web Application Firewall) that provides protection against attacks L7 for applications and web databases.

There are many other security features such as SSL, DOS protection, authentication, etc. that complement the WAF provide a holistic approach to security. NetScaler 10 comes with many safety improvements (other than WAF) that we'll cover in this blog.

1. simple ACLs : Simple ACLs are used to block traffic based on the combination of IP, port and protocol and still in force on the new sessions. Now we have added a "flush" command to make your new effective ACLs existing sessions as well - just in case you need to make sure you completely block the flow of bad sources

2. ACLs extended : We increased the limit extended ACL that can be created on NetScaler 10K to exist 1K

3. SSL Renegotiation Attack : Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) renegotiations are vulnerable to an attack in which the attacker makes a TLS connection with the target server, injects the content of their choice, then splice in a new TLS connection from a client. NetScaler 10 now offers protection against these attacks by cryptographically binding renegotiation handshakes cryptographic parameters TLS gripping, allowing the server to differentiate the renegotiation of the initial negotiation and the prevention of renegotiations to be connected between connections .

4. Authentication - NTLMv2 : The choice of security negotiated between the client and the server assigns:
• The level of authentication protocol used by clients
• The negotiated session security level
• the level of authentication accepted by servers

NetScaler now announces the capacity to support NTLMv2 session security and support for the signing of type 3 message.

5. Authentication - SAML : NetScaler 10 has also added support for SAML consumers. We can now accept the client authentication using third party identity provider (IDP). As a service provider in SAML, NetScaler supports the authentication scheme - Service Provider initiated and launched IdP. IdP supported on NetScaler 10 are - SecureAuth, Shibboleth, ADFS and Cloud Gateway

6 .. TCP Syn Cookie : Before NetScaler 10, there was no way to disable Syn Support Cookie - but now you can

7. HTTP slow DOS Protection NetScaler employs Adaptive Request Timeout to counter the slow DOS attacks HTTP. We take into account factors such as the length of the payload, MSW, inter-packet delay and RTT to adapt the timeout used for requests. And when the timeout occurs one set of possible actions is taken. -! DROP and reset

HDX 3D Pro readers worldwide collaboration for engineers - Now requires half the bandwidth -

Consider your needs are too difficult for the desktop virtualization? Think again.

manufacturers and engineering companies have most office problems of us never have to think about. That collaboration with design engineers across the oceans using CAD / CAM or GIS advanced applications or working on product issues with an iPad on the production floor, the delivery of secure, high performance accelerated 3D GPU applications and desktops with XenDesktop has never been more powerful or effective.

So why desktop virtualization for extreme graphics performance?

1. datasets get bigger- As software vendors continue to push the envelope with increasing data precise and sophisticated models to capture the details "virtual" behind designs increasingly complex data generated and stored in relation to these models is growing. Like many engineers or CAD operators must have access to these models, this means moving large amounts of data. While there are a range of technologies to help treat the large volumes of data, it still requires synchronization and larger pipes.

2. New requirements for Collaboration- Many manufacturers and engineering companies are increasingly taking advantage of global design teams that work projects around the clock to collaborate with suppliers and vendors across continents, and leverage outsourcing talent. These requirements together further Stress infrastructure that many users may need to leverage the same real-time design data, making it impossible synchronization.

3. protection IP- The design data captured in modern applications has a critical value for the owners of this intellectual property. At the same time, demand for collaboration with third parties puts increasing pressure on the protection of designs.

XenDesktop with HDX 3D technology secures intellectual property and sensitive data sensitive privacy while improving collaboration and performance by eliminating the need to synchronize and transfer massive data files. Meanwhile, users leverage GPU hardware state-of-the-art data center to access drawings from any device, anywhere.

As another component of Citrix Workshifting solutions, HDX 3D Pro technology included with XenDesktop 5.6 Feature Pack 1, available in June 2012, will provide a breakthrough visual performance while reducing bandwidth needs for experience for the most demanding graphics in half, taking advantage of a new ultra-efficient codec deep compression.

deep codec compression

new deep compression codec leveraged by HDX 3D Pro can be compressed and decompressed in the software without using cores in the GPU , leaving the GPU to calculate heights and textures allowing GPU and cost for many applications.

GPU Passthrough

The GPU option passthrough released with XenServer allows 6 (initially) up to 4 GPUs to be installed on a server and then "passed-through "for virtual machines running on the hypervisor. This option for deploying HDX 3D Pro enables iT to manage desktops as virtual machines, with all the flexibility, management and control of VDI, but still provides a full GPU for each user. The support systems of this model are now available from Dell, HP, IBM.

5 surprising things I learned about XenDesktop today - My Synergy Diary Day 4 -

I am here in San Francisco this week to attend any Summit and Synergy. So I decided to keep a diary of my time here, so I can share my experiences of the sessions I attended and people I meet.

Day 2 of Synergy and the conference center is now in full swing with lots of running sessions. The day began with the second keynote Synergy, below are the highlights:

  • clouds are not - lots of demos and an overview of the Avalon Project
  • the clouds are built from the bottom up - some guest speakers providing input

the TAA team had another busy day with lots of interviews with clients again. We receive excellent feedback that we will implement in the product roadmap.

A couple of team members are also present a session "The Ultimate XenDesktop 5.x workshop troubleshooting". This session is popular and repeated 4 times. Each advanced sessions.

So I try to attend as many meetings as possible, so what did I learn today?

  1. WinRM and head office
    This discussion came during a discussion with a client and my colleague explained how you can use the Microsoft WinRM protocol that enables remote management . He continued to explain how you can use WinRM with Desktop Director. I found the following article on the knowledge base that explains how to enable WinRM - http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX125243
  2. HDX improvements in XenDesktop
    I attended a session with Derek Thorslund around HDX technologies. The session covered HDX capabilities, enhancements and capabilities. I recommend to check the registration of the session on Citrix TV.
  3. XenDesktop and storage
    Another excellent Geek Speak Live session that covered if traditional storage is inefficient for the office. There was a wide range of experts on the panel that offered a wide ranging view. Good session and reflection during storage exam in your VDI environment.
  4. Council Citrix best practices are cool!
    I caught the end of a session delivered by two Citrix consultants who talked about how to design the office processing user experience with Citrix Consulting best practices. The session was the use of profiles and personal vDisk, optimizing HDX technolgies for fast networks and many more I'm sure. Another session, I have to check on Citrix TV when records are in place.
  5. Accommodation XenDesktop on XenServer
    Very popular session issued by the office products manager. Features covered
    This session taht make XenServer optimal platform to host XenDesktop, something I never really thought before someone new to desktop virtualization. My path is around web / network. Session also focused on improvements in XenServer that will reduce the cost of desktop virtualization.

See my daily newspaper below.

I also took many pictures during the event you can find on the Citrix Support site Facebook

Introducing "Windsor": a new virtualization architecture based on Xen -

Introducing "Windsor": a new virtualization architecture based on Xen - -

Here, in the XenServer R & D group I'm working on a new open-source based xen, the 'virtualization architecture (code -named "Windsor"). The aim is to exploit the impressive capabilities of the Xen hypervisor to a new generation platform for IaaS cloud computing.

Why I like xen?

Xen was originally created at the University of the draft xenoserver Cambridge Computer Lab, whose goal was:

to build a public infrastructure for wide area distributed computing

This was before. the days before "cloud" and "IaaS" became popular. The purpose was to be xen:

a high-performance hypervisor ... [which] form the core of each Xenoserver node, providing resource management, accounting and the audit that we need [

course xen was a great success making exactly what in the public cloud.

from the architectural point of view, xen is great because it is a job and does it well. Xen is a "Type 1" hypervisor or "bare metal" that is underneath all running virtual machines to isolate them from each other and control who comes to talk about the physical hardware. Xen is not an OS kernel; it was not a multitude of interfaces, VFS layers, blocks caches, etc. It focuses on being a great hypervisor

Windsor :. Exploit the capabilities of xen

The architecture Windsor operate the xen capabilities:

  • increase the security of the host Service on the host will be divided into separate virtual machines and deprivileged to decrease the size of the Trusted Computing base (TCB). Xen will continue to provide rock solid isolation between virtual machines, limiting the impact of any compromise. In the Xen community this technique is known as "domain 0 disintegration"
  • increase scalability host :. Just as modern applications can be designed to scale-automatically through a public cloud, Windsor Home services will be able to step across multiple virtual machines in the Windsor platform . for example, if the host storage service overloads, the host start a second service and load balancer transparent
  • increase availability :. Since even the most robust systems still sometimes encounter bugs and fail, the services will be designed to Windsor to recover quickly. for example, device drivers are all handled as separate virtual machines (known as "areas of the pilot"). Each VM has access to a single piece of equipment. If a device driver crashes , xen contain the accident and the VM is restarted. Basically, all guest virtual machines remain running and only notice a small interruption of their network or storage I / O
  • a better quality of service (QoS) :. The key to ensuring a good quality of service in the cloud is to prevent virtual machines from one tenant to interfere with the virtual machines to another tenant, for example by exhausting the number of available I / O buffers in shared storage stack. In Windsor, xen will isolate network stacks and storage ( "pilot areas") of each tenant so that requests I / O are kept apart until they reach the physical hardware.

The best is yet to come ...

Expect to see the technical details (including links to the code) in some future blog posts!

Customizing Receiver for Web

9:16 PM Add Comment
Customizing Receiver for Web -

Note :. An updated version of this blog for StoreFront 2.0 is available here

Citrix Receiver for Web provides integrated support for customizing the user interface. In this blog post, I will explain and demonstrate how to implement the custom interface using the integrated support. If you take this approach, your customization will have a better chance of surviving the release upgrade. All the examples in this article are based on Cloud Gateway Express 1.1.

After a receptor for the Web site is created, there is a folder named contrib under the site (default location is C: inetpub wwwroot sites Citrix StoreWeb contrib ). This contains the integrated hooks for customization interface. It is recommended that all the customization and the media code are stored in this folder because the contents of this file will be kept when upgrading to future releases. Please note, however, that there is no guarantee that personalization will still work out of the box through the release upgrade, especially when the user interface changes significantly.

CSS Customization

custom CSS can be used to easily change many aspects of the appearance of the site, including fonts, colors and images. A CSS file named custom.style.css is included in the contrib folder . This CSS file is referenced after the main CSS files of the site and therefore the CSS style definitions specified in this file override any similar definitions specified elsewhere. You can use Web development tools such as Firebug (for Firefox) or the development tools provided by Internet Explorer and Google Chrome to identify the CSS selectors (element types, classes or ID) you want to customize. Examples

Example 1 :. Rebranding the logon screen

First we will try to change the background image. As shown in the screenshot below, using Firebug, we recognize that the CSS selector for the background image is body .

We copy the new background image abstract wave-on-a-blue-background.jpg to contrib folder . Add the following CSS definition custom.style.css

body {
background-image: url ( "abstract-wave-on-a-blue-background jpg ");
}

Reload the page and the new background image took effect as

then we'll change the logo. We identify the CSS selector for the logo is # logonbox-logoimage.

Copy the new logo image logo_world.png to contrib folder. Add the following CSS definition custom.style.css

# logonbox-logoimage {
background-image: url ( "logo_world.png") ;
}

Reload the page and the new logo is displayed:

Finally, we will change the font color and weight for labels logon form. Using Firebug, we recognize that the CSS selector for the login form labels is # label logonbox-LogonForm .

Add the following CSS definition custom.style.css

# logonbox-label LogonForm {
color: yellow;
font-weight: bold;
}

Reload the page and you can see the labels for the login form become bold yellow

Example 2 :. Customizing the home screen

First, we will replace the logo in the header area. We identify the CSS selector for the logo # header-logo .

Copy the new image header logo logo_header.png to contrib folder. Add the CSS defined in custom.style.css

# header-logo {
background-image: url ( "logo_header.png");
}

Reload the page and logo in the header area is replaced:

then, we'll change the font color for application names to make it more readable. We recognize that the CSS selector for the strong to the application names is .myapps-name .

Just add the following CSS definition personalized .style.css

. myapps-name
{
color: yellow;
}

as well, by adding the following CSS definitions custom.style.css changes the font color for the username and log Off link in the header area:

# # resources header header-userinfo {
color: lightgreen;
}

# # resources header header-logofflink {
color: lightgreen;
}

is the resulting home screen:

JavaScript customization

JavaScript customization can be used to inject extra content in the user interface and load other scripts, CSS and HTML fragments via Ajax. A JavaScript file named custom.script.js is included in the contrib and referenced by the HTML file for the receiver to the Web user interface. This custom JavaScript file is referenced after major site-wide JavaScript files so that all functions defined in the custom file function replacement with the same names defined elsewhere

Example 3 :. Adding a hyperlink to the footer area

Using Firebug, we recognize that the ID of the footer area is #-resources footer . We add the following JavaScript code custom.script.js

$ (document) .ready (function () {
$ var = $ markup ( '

');
$ ( '#-resources footer') append ($ markup) ;.
});

This adds a mailto link to the footer area:

We need to apply some style to make it pretty. Just add the following CSS definition custom.style.css

#-resources footer div {
padding-top: 58px;
}

#-resources footer a {
color: lightgreen;
}

#-resources footer a: hover {
color: silver;
text-decoration: underline;
}

These Prettify the hyperlink:

Example 4: Loading additional files IU

in this example, we load the HTML and CSS more to achieve the same effect as example 3. If you applied customization in example 3 in your site, you must undo the changes before following the instructions below -Dessous.

First, create a new file named footer.htm in the contrib folder with the following HTML fragment:

Then create another file called footer.css in the contrib folder with the following CSS definitions:

#-resources footer div {
padding-top: 58px;
}

#-resources footer a {
color: lightgreen;
}

#-resources footer a: hover {
color: silver;
text-decoration: underline;
}

Finally, add the following JavaScript code custom.script.js

$ ( document) .ready (function () {
$ .ajax ({
url: "contrib / footer.css '
success :. function (data) {
$ (' ') appendTo (' head ') .html (data)
}
});

$ (' #-resources footer ') expense (. 'contrib / footer.htm');
}) ;.

ajax $ call load the CSS footer.css and $ ( '#-resources footer'). load call loads the HTML fragment defined in footer.htm to footer div . The resulting screen is exactly the same as in Example 3.

customization Chain

custom string bundle files for all supported languages are included in the contrib folder. They are simple JavaScript files that define a set of name-value pairs. Strings defined in these files replace the high-ropes for the given language

Example 5 :. texts customization in the Header area

We will change the link text "Log Off" to "Sign Out" and "Welcome" to "Signed as".

First, we need to locate the string IDs. Open the string file in English (default location is C: inetpub wwwroot Citrix StoreWeb scripts en ctxs.wrstrings.js ). In a text editor

then search the file for the strings "Log Off" and "Welcome" and note the string ID in this case LogOff and welcome.

Change the English custom file chains custom.wrstrings.en.js in the contrib folder and add channels updates as

(function ($) {
$ .localization.customStringBundle ( 'en', {
Welcome to "Logged in as {0} ',
LogOff' Logout '
Example1: "This is an example'
Example2: 'This is another example
});
}) (jQuery);

Reload the page and you can see the new texts on the home screen:

A similar process can be followed to modify existing channels found in the user interface. Channels can be changed to other languages by providing customization in the appropriate custom string file, for example, custom.wrstrings.fr.js for the French.

Limitations

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, all in the folder contrib will be preserved through the release upgrade. However, the page elements can be added, deleted or renamed in future versions of Receiver for Web. As a result, customizations may not work after upgrading to a future version.

How applications delivered to virtual desktops in the real world

7:13 PM Add Comment
How applications delivered to virtual desktops in the real world -

Have you ever wondered how other organizations like yours choose to deliver applications to their desktops virtual? As Citrix Consultant, I am constantly asked to provide this kind of "reality check."

I often relies on design cues in the office processing accelerator to help meet these types of questions. with over 8,500 registered projects in over 110 countries, the accelerator is probably the most extensive project database office processing real world in the world.

So let's take a look at what the accelerator tells us about how organizations are effectively deliver applications:

Chart: Application delivery combinations,% of projects

Source: Office design cues from the processing accelerator

approach the most widely used application delivery is to install on the virtual desktop (locally) and some set-Hosted (XenApp)

I can think of two good reasons why this combination is so popular.

1) a group of organizations decide not to use XenDesktop for all users, but only for a group of demanding users (ie developers or CAD engineers). In this scenario, the popular desktop applications are provided as published applications (using the existing XenApp environment), while specific applications in the user-as Visual Studio or CATIA- are installed directly on the virtual desktop. Besides centralized maintenance of desktop applications that also releases a fair amount of CPU / memory on virtual desktops. Especially in CAD scenarios each MB in RAM account.

2) The other group of organizations decide otherwise, and to grant to all users a virtual office. In this scenario, common desktop applications are usually installed right in the virtual desktop image. XenApp then provide access to applications "special" that are either user or a specific department and can not be integrated into the base image (compatibility / flexibility), require a back end connection at high speed ( ie work stations are located in another datacenter) or need to be updated frequently. In so doing, it is possible to use a single virtual image office for a wide variety of user groups. In addition, it is possible to minimize the maintenance cycles on the image.

12% of organizations install applications on the virtual desktop (locally) and current else the customer

This scenario has similarities to the one above, but the reasons for choosing it are probably different. In many cases, it is chosen by organizations that have standardized on virtual desktops but do not have a XenApp experience or whose applications are not compatible with XenApp (access to knowledge required local materials). So all the basic applications are installed in the virtual desktop image and user / role specific applications are distributed to customers through streaming packets. This combination offers the same advantages as the above scenario, but offers an advantage in the application testing aside. Since the application streaming isolates the integration testing of individual applications streaming becomes almost obsolete. Regression testing is necessary in cases where the integration between the applications is required (inter-isolation communication).

Have you found any other ideas in the table above?

How will you deliver applications to your virtual desktops? Leave a comment!

To speed up your decision-making, create a project in the office processing accelerator and benefit from the input of your peers.

Where certified NEBS NetScaler appliances integrate into the mobile space and why? -

This could take several long essays to answer, but I'll boil it to its essence. There are four functional areas within the center of the mobile telecommunications operations where we must deploy NetScaler. The first is the carriers' control plan where the audit usage, billing and authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) resident. Here, NetScaler is ideal for providing AAA server load balancing and supports RADIUS and DIAMETER protocols.

The second location where the mobile operator hosted applications reside. NetScaler provides a wide range of optimization benefits for applications including content switching, load balancing application server, TCP and HTTP optimization, and application caching to start. In addition, NetScaler provides AppExpert rate controls to manage the usage limits of the subscriber and the server push support to improve application delivery

The third location for NetScaler in the mobile packet network heart .; here, it is all about the massive data transmission through elements such as routers GGSN. In this core equity and data traffic offload NetScaler facets are highlighted. SSL offloading and TCP / IP communication airline of the protocol stack and the queue priority are packet processing and more efficient transmission. The NetScaler MPX 20500 provides over 40 Gbps; with the grouping of multiple nodes all of layer 7 throughput reaches more than one terabit / second.

Finally, all these mobile communication packets usually pass by the support battery cover on the road and the Internet. NetScaler provides cache server load balancing and N-tier multi-layer cover re-direction.

Many telecommunications operations require or strongly prefer NEBS certified equipment in most of these facilities. NetScaler with NEBS is not just for the company's facilities or XenApp / XenDesktop or centered on the Internet or social networking or e-commerce more!

Knowing your application streaming

Knowing your application streaming -

In a virtual environment, we can have many streaming applications, local applications and also different versions of the same applications streamed becasue they are being ' running in an isolated environment. So in this kind of mixed environment can sometimes wonder - I use the streaming application, so we may want to know more details, such as the streaming application format like VHD or DIR and other details

Now we. may think that we can open the Explorer process and verify the same. it will first show all running processes, to differentiate them streamed applications we need little more knowledge each streamed application runs in an isolated environment, we can just say "sandbox". This sandbox is actually an exe called "Radelauncher.exe" or "RadeSandbox.exe" (later only applicable for version 6.7 of the offline plug-in). So, all streamed applications have parent process as "Radelauncher.exe" or "RadeSandbox.exe" without waiting for the direct parent process some applications may not be radeluancher radesandbox or even if they are running under the same sandbox. Even all this information may not be sufficient to know your application streaming.

So writes a simple exe tool that shows streamed applications running in your system. It also shows how the sandbox may be running on your system, how many applications are running in each sandbox. By clicking on them, we get more information, as if this application is available online or offline, if possible share AppHub or file. We also know how streaming applications on my system using the VHD format, how can use the DIR format, etc. Parameters related to VHD is defined in my system or not, AppHub is configured to run the application with streaming services because the application continuously with only allowed to run if the input services apphubwhitelist is present and is AppHub approved for the same. So knowing all this information about the streamed application is always a better way to know your application isolation environment and perhaps even useful to solve them.

little more detail how the work of the tool is that it reads envrironmental details of each process. This is not simple, other processes of environmental information reading must have access to an appropriate procedure for the environment read block - you do not go into details about it. While continuous process isolation of the implementation of related details as GUID information (unique for each profile) in their environmental block and tells the application streamed and give us much more information. This is one of the safest years surest way to recognize an application streaming.

Well now I want to give a screenshot of the simple tool and a link to download the same. Suggestions, comments and improvements to the tool are always welcome. This tool needs last dot net framework 4 or later.

Using a WebCam for the whiteboards in GoToMeeting

Using a WebCam for the whiteboards in GoToMeeting -

Have you ever wanted an easy way to communicate a simple visual idea on the fly from a GoToMeeting session ? GoToMeeting is awesome to communicate ideas, and with HDFaces it's great to get that feeling face to face. What I mean is a quick drawing or whiteboard.

So here's what I did.

I wanted to be able to use the way I'm used to using, ie whiteboards or drawing a diagram on a block and which result in a web meeting. It has quite a few tablets and slate design options, but I wanted the direct feel of a sheet of paper or a whiteboard. How about a way to capture a drawing session from a GoToMeeting session?

This is the basic idea, the use GoToMeeting HDFaces and move the focus to a webcam that is pointed downwards from a mounting head. Place your writing materials on the table and you are all set

I tool a working lamp Lagra Ikea. Http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70146339/ and used the base and the lamp arm. So I took the work lamp LED Ikea JANSJÖ: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20169658/ and set the sinuous neck and lamp (with a webcam) to the base arm [

I used an HP webcam HD-3110. This is a 5MP Photo / 720p HD video webcam spec

My costs for this project were: .. 2 lamps, $ 4.99, $ 9.99, $ 19.99 1 webcam plus some ties cable

My biggest problem is that reverse Mac (mirror image) the webcam display. There are two options:

1. Auto Flip New in iPhoto

2. iGlasses

3. Do not use the text and just draw pictures

Here is a movie of the device in use: https://roytokeshi.sharefile.com/d/s445c65316db44d7b

It looks like iGlasses is the best way to return natively on a Mac . Also remember if you save a GTM you will show the video through PhotoBooth or something because HDFaces video are not saved.

Hope this helps you get some more lab budget. He helped me get some more budget laboratory of my wife! 😉
