Welcome to CBC Cribs, the blog that brings you into the exciting world of new Chalfont Information Centre, here Citrix UK.
So why am I writing about an information center? Previously, when we wanted to demonstrate our products to customers all scratching our servers, usually acquired through friends in engineering or kit we had lying around at home. We would then build a couple of XenApp servers and perhaps a few virtual desktops for good measure. In the early years of me being a systems engineer would work very well. It would then move on proof of concept or design discussions and we would be on track to help customers overcome their problems.
However, as we have grown as a company, we won much technology moved our receiver on some very different devices and started to join all the dots together that our collaboration tools. Demonstration of different solutions to different devices for different reasons mean that we would also need a lot of tablets, laptops, thin clients and desktop PCs. My bag is not great and neither is the trunk of my car, so we had reached a bit of a stalemate insofar as that was possible.
We needed a place capable of executing customer demonstrations and show the big blast that Citrix can do. Gone is the time to just show a seamless applications. We now want to mix this by creating a new document on an application streaming, recording for ShareFile then open that document on an Android tablet and using the receiver to do so - on the transparent, I might add!. I am a firm believer in that if you evangelize a bit of technology, you should be able to demonstrate and enjoy doing it.
The other thing is that if you attend Synergy or watch the keynotes online CitrixTV you will see the now legendary demonstrations CDO (which is Chief Executive Demo) Brad Peterson . Brad is the yard-stick by which all are judged Citrix demonstrations to see how kit costs he has at his disposal made me, well ... it makes me a little jealous But that we brings to today, and Chalfont information Centre.
Chalfont House was built in 1792 and is a listed building, a beautiful, but protected by the law of the United Kingdom has always been a bit of a throw back. We recognized the need to update and modernize our demonstration areas and that was the first thing to be completed. We invested in new audiovisual services and as you can see from the pictures that we kept the classic feel but added some features of the 21st century. I'll give you some details and photos of the entire areas in a future post.
This is very exciting for me on many levels. Gone are the days of plundering the parts-bin of my shed, but to call on favors is still with us. And I'm very happy for what I call ...
Intel Dell and Whiptail helped us well beyond what I could have ever expected and provided us with state of the art rack-mounted servers, tablets, laptops, desktops and storage. To be flippant for a second, everything works like an absolute beast.
Look for more details on what our good friends provided in later blog posts.
Another big thank you to Brad. Brad and his team provided us with compatible virtual machines very similar to those you see in our events as Synergy
this is very convenient, because first of all, that means we can get the latest updates very quickly and secondly, we know they are repeatable. With these virtual machines, we can show all our key products in a smooth sequence but get to talk about things more deeply based on what the customer needs us. It is a big change and a breath of fresh air.
Finally, with all the computing capacity and storage at our disposal, I have other plans more tailor too, but you'll hear more than in subsequent messages CBC. Cribs
Thanks for reading
David
