2015 was a difficult year for security and privacy. It seemed that every few days, we were hit with another story about a data breach, a vulnerability in the operating system, or a proposal 1984 esque legislation. The numbers were staggering. At December 22, there were 766 data breaches this year in the US alone. That breaks down to more than 2 violations per day, with 177 840 420 records exposed.
At the heart of this business is trust. Time and again our faith was betrayed that authorities we our personal data, devices, and privacy have let us down. And this disappointment was widespread, covering health care providers, higher education institutions, and government agencies. Although we reserve the right to remain skeptical, here's hoping that 2016 will be a leap forward for security and privacy.
