Health IT: advancing Leise Medicine and the US supply system - Part 2 -

Putting information to a clinician to speed with the fingertips life changing decisions - and providers inefficiencies reduce

Johnny Brister Franciscan missionaries of our lady Health system (FMOLHS) in Baton Rouge, LA seems surprised again and again how much I love their history. In his southern drawl, he once told me something like, "I suppose that if you are too close to the action, often you do not have enough time to take a step back and the progress you have revel made. " Hearing the incredible possibilities to their IT team is advancing care and the provider drive efficiency help got my attention quickly. And it was my mission to share her story. National Health IT Week gave me another excuse to do just that.

Recently CIO Magazine published a strong piece of how health information technology could FMOLHS the reach of their own wellness program to prolong a healthy life, to other employers in the state of Louisiana and beyond. As a citizen of this country, we need to be educated, proactive and change in control of our own health outcomes. And have our employers make health help and wellness a priority for us. That's why I love what FMOLHS did. They took a program that garnered a 80% interest rate and proved had their members to get involved, to improve health and save their organizations money, and they shared it with the rest of us. This is a big step forward for our country, and health IT was one of the underlying components that have made it possible.

But the same health IT strategy has done much, including giving FMOLHS clinicians on patient data for immediate access wherever they are, every year to spend while reducing $ 750,000 wasted. When Johnny said his team has one main goal in FMOLHS: "to assist the doctors to save them time so they can spend more of it with the patient They are doctors, not IT people should not have to.. to take care of computer. "

to achieve this goal, to put the IT team the necessary critical patient information at the doctor's fingertips. And, perhaps more importantly, they had to streamline clinical workflows and reduce the time to get to the taking "point of productivity." By reducing the number of clicks per endpoint interaction (which may be countless) 1 click for the first login and zero clicks for subsequent reconnects with a badge and PIN, cut the IT staff time, medical records of 30 seconds access per interaction. Amazingly, save that the provider almost $ 750,000 per year. But imagine what that would mean if you, the patient or a concerned family member were in one of their facilities. It would mean more attention from caregivers, more informed clinical decision making and faster response if you or your family member needs it most.

The story goes that Johnny and FMOLHS team does not agree with stops healthy extension Lives program, faster clinical decisions or provider efficiency. Learn how health IT is FMOLHS possible to reach more patients and support their strong, faith-mission of helping people in need.

FMOLHS is accelerating life-changing decisions, not only in the implementation of information to a clinician with the fingertips. Innovative providers like Seattle Children's Hospital and many others allow clinicians technology resources to take advantage of simpler and more efficient, no matter where they go, while generating significant ROI for the company.
