1-5 websites are blocked by British ISPs -

group of anti-censorship campaign the Open Rights Group found that websites in five were blocked by at least ISP filter of a defect in the United Kingdom. Since the beginning of this year, the UK ISPs have self-imposed on new broadband customers unless customers specifically request filters them not.

All major Internet service providers have complied, although they are not required by law and by the end of 2014, the filter will be extended to existing broadband customers as well. The Open Rights Group has tested the filter systems attempting to access 100,000 websites using either the default setting provided by the network or the normal setting in which no filter has been set. By doing this, the Open Rights Group found that nearly 20,000 sites were blocked by at least one ISP.

Although the government is promoting filtering to prevent anyone under 18 to see the content that is made for a 18+ audience, the other sites are blocked as well. For example, many blogs and forums are blocked by default.

Since website owners will not have a clue that an ISP blocks their website, the Open Rights Group has made this control tool available to everyone, www. . blocked.org.uk
