How do you define your technology? -

One of the reasons why I came to Citrix, was because it has always remained focused on a vision to help people work better. has developed as an innovation over the years, the company has different words used to describe the technology that enables this vision, but the focus has always access to the provision of people to applications and data.

Lately you have heard us talk about our vision for a software-defined workspace. This sentence could such a clever use of an industry buzzword appear, but in our case it's a perfect definition of where we take our customers.

first came

In order to help you fully understand our view Location-Defined jobs

, let me share some thoughts about where we as an industry. In the 70s and 80s we had Location defined jobs . We went to one place and have specific tasks to specific equipment. IT environments are often limited integrated into isolation with no common networks, operating systems and user interfaces, and were on proprietary hardware and software. Apps were often tied to a person or device, and productivity has been realized at the department level.

Then Came hardware Defined jobs

in the 0s and 00s, in which the IT environment with the corporate LAN / WAN technology and common / be standardized software and hardware developed and used. As a result of the work was transported to devices such as desktop and laptop applications have been developed on a one-to-many model, and productivity was realized across functions. This is the time that Citrix was founded in 1989, was characterized by optimizing how the data from any device accessed.

Well, we are in the software-defined workspace Era

Other companies have talked about software-defined data center or software-defined networking - both of which are important - but you can in the context of our vision, why Citrix focused on the workplace as a whole. At Citrix, we want to say that the software-defined work both human and the business results for our customers drives. A good example of this is highlighted in the recent research by McKinsey Global Institute, the workflows estimates optimize and even 20 percent cooperation to increase over software-based solutions workers can save up to 0 hours per year 1 .

In a software-defined workspace, marked workers, who they are and what they need to do - not what device they have or where they need to go. The new IT environments are designed, built and combined with joint technology on Internet architecture, such as the cloud. As a result, applications based on an any-to-any model, the global and enterprise-wide productivity are possible while security can be more contextual to the person who is accessing the data.

We are in an exciting time for technology, but not every provider has its customers in order to help all the benefits of software-defined workspace. In addition to my role as Chief Strategy Officer, I was GM recently for our Workspace Services business unit, which focuses on the core Citrix technologies including XenApp, XenDesktop, and XenServer XenMobile. My colleague Klaus Oestermann supervises our Delivery Networks business unit, the Citrix NetScaler and Cloud Bridge products. Chris Hylen directs the Mobility Apps Business Unit, driving the strategy for the GoTo and Share File-products. These virtualization, mobility management, network and SaaS solutions - together and apart - allowing our customers already benefit from a software-defined workspace. But we are early in the software-defined era, and there are plenty more innovation to achieve. Our goal is to improve even go further, how these technologies can increase the bar in flexibility, security and overall customer experience, so that people can actually work better.

In the coming weeks I will elaborate on further, as we are using the software-defined workspace to shift how people work. But first I want to hear from you. What can bring a software-defined work your business? Tell me in the comments or email me on Twitter - @Geirheads
