Congress is considering a new bill like SOPA, but this bill would focus on "cybersecurity. " If you do not know what that means, you will lack nothing. The language used in the Act Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection 2011 (CISPA) is so broad that it is difficult to determine how such a law would be applied. Certain legal exemptions would be granted to companies Bill vaguely described as "cybersecurity providers" or those who work in the interest of the "cyber security" to protect their intellectual property
The Electronic Frontier Foundation summarizes these powers:.
means a company like Google, Facebook, Twitter, or AT & T could intercept your emails and text messages, send copies to the other and the government, and modify those communications or prevent them from reaching their destination if it fits into their plan to stop cyber threats.
More or less, the bill would mean that a company could be immune to all existing laws as long as they claim "cyber" as their motivation. The definition of "cybersecurity" in the bill is so broad that said basically it refers to anyone trying to protect against information theft or intellectual property, alias, everyone. It is not surprising that this bill is causing the noise before it even reached the House for a vote.
