Release 1.1 of the Optimization Pack for Microsoft Lync -

Last week at Synergy Barcelona, we announced version 1.1 of HDX RealTime Optimization Pack to Microsoft® Lync®. The new version, now available on our downloads page, complete this solution to provide the Microsoft Lync client XenDesktop and XenApp with several major improvements.

The function tries to release is support for Enterprise Voice. Enterprise Voice is the term Microsoft for PBX / PSTN integration. A "Select a number" menu was added to the Contacts menu, the Options Contact Card menu and other places to allow users to call Lync Lync users not their phone number. So, this improvement is great news for Citrix customers who want to use as Lync phone system (see my blog "Lync is our phone system")

Other new highlights :. version of

  • support for USB devices Lync-compatible , including telephone, speaker and headphones. This improvement supports devices that comply with the Microsoft specifications for HID USB functionality Lync-compatible. supported functions include on Hook Off Hook, volume control, mute and flash. and HDX automatically detects devices that advertise Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) AEC cutoff for devices to avoid redundant processing.
  • Lync Call Admission control . the optimization pack now supports the Microsoft specifications for the management of bandwidth and control of calls admission using ICE and TURN 2.0 2.0.
  • Enhanced Emergency Services support (eg E911 in the US and Canada). HDX is trying to determine the location of the user device using the same server consultation algorithms as Microsoft Lync native client. If this location search fails to return a valid location, the software sends no location information in E911 demand rather than knowingly send incorrect information; the emergency services system directs calls without location information to a human operator.
  • Support SUSE Linux (v11 SP1 / SP2). SUSE Linux is used on various models of thin clients Wyse.
  • Support for the Logitech Webcam C920 with H.264 high-encoder. Most thin clients do not have enough CPU processing power to perform real-time HD video encoding. The Logitech C920 solves this problem by moving the encoding webcam that allows thin clients to deliver 720p HD video.
  • TCP / IP fallback for firewall traversal via Lync edge server when UDP is blocked. Citrix recommends UDP / RTP for voice traffic in real time because it minimizes the audio latency in case of network congestion or packet loss, but some IT departments to disable UDP through their firewall. This mode provides a backup mechanism for media transport if the UDP traffic is blocked.
  • Automated Update HDX RealTime Media Engine plug-in Citrix Receiver for Windows with CloudGateway StoreFront 1.2 and above.
  • Compatibility with PC function remote XenDesktop . Remote PC was introduced in XenDesktop 5.6 Feature Pack 1 to support remote access to physical computers. It allows customers to take a first step toward desktop virtualization by allowing workers to access their PC desktop workstation from anywhere and any device, be it a tablet when they are in a meeting room or their Mac at home. Until now, when the remote access client media engine ran on the Lync desktop PC and all the audio-video traffic was delivered ICA. Now that traffic can flow directly from the user's device to the other party on the call or to Lync Audio-Video Conferencing Server.

At the same time, we also posted a Tech Preview of HDX RealTime Media Engine plug-in for Citrix Receiver for Mac. If you are a Mac user, give us please your comments on this version Tech Preview with the Forum for the optimization package for Lync.

And finally, we would like to encourage VDI-in-a-Box customers to evaluate version 1.1 in a non-production environment and provide feedback on the Forum.
