XenServer 6.1 is now available on the Web and I recently updated my Lab 6.0.2 XS 6.1 and was quite a smooth ride. Post upgrade, I recently found my XenServer console enabled with "message of the day" . I was very happy that I used to do it manually to my earlier XS; although not supported.
The problem with MOTD is that you can not see the MOTD messages when you connect from XenServer console, but no SSH connections and I find a way to activate it.
by default, if a MOTD is configured in / etc / motd , it will be displayed for Telnet connections, but not for SSH connections.
to enable the MOTD to display for SSH connections, too, do the following:
Log on to the console as root
make a copy of backup for / etc / ssh / sshd_config file :.
cp / etc / ssh / sshd_config /etc/ssh/sshd_config.backup
Change / etc / ssh / sshd_config file, uncomment and change the line No. 98 below:
#PrintMotd not
to
PrintMotd yes
Then restart SSHD with the /etc/init.d/sshd restart . Now you'll be able to see the MOTD when connecting using the SSH client as well.
P.S. Changes to Dom0 is unsupported and tips to use at your own risk ...
