Meet Citrix Geek of the Week - Steve Greenberg -

Comrades Community Greetings

I thought it would be fun to start a "Geek of the week" blog series, to highlight our exceptional community members there, so you can get to know more about them and what they do in and community!

Our first Geek of the Week is

Steve Greenberg
Founder and Senior Consultant
Thin Client Computing LLC
Scottsdale, Arizona!

What is your current role within the technology industry?

I am a Virtualization Architect / Consultant and professional Citrix technologies (CTP), and I run a group of specialized advice, Thin client computing, which designs and provides solutions to the company's customers. I started in 190, in the early years as a Citrix client and became a Citrix integrator.

What was your first computer project and what was your role at the time?

in fact I worked in recording studios and music technology before moving on to the computer. The transition took place because I am tired to stay up for 36 hours at a time and travel. I moved into IT where he could stay for 36 hours without moving!

I had a new wife and baby and "installed" by accepting a job as the guy of IT in a company. They ended up very rapidly and had the unique attitude of being willing to fund innovation. That's where I have implemented Citrix Winview (in 1993) and made some very interesting integrations of cross platform that became the model for what I still do today.

What do you enjoy most about working with technology every day?

I like the fact that it continues to evolve and the opening of new possibilities. Each new development is based on the past and creates an infinite number of possible solutions. The cycle used to take years to run its course and then a few months for new innovations. Now it seems that this is down to weeks and sometimes even days. It takes an extraordinary effort to keep and what works in practice. This is why we can accomplish great things in IT, but it is also the reason why there are so pervasive problems.

What is your favorite Citrix technology and why?

This is like asking which of your children you like best! But XenApp is still the one for me. At the end of the day, it still gives the biggest "bang for the buck" and solves most problems. This does not take away from my other favorites such as Provisioning Server, XenDesktop and NetScaler - I give them the award for "Best Actor in a Supporting Role. We use our solutions - it is the right mix of further action actually gets the best results. For the vast majority of our solutions, the customer buys XenDesktop and we design and deploy around the sub-components that best fit their needs.

What are the technical events that you are looking forward to attend this year?

Mainly Synergy and BriForum, I also want my own events in the Scottsdale area who are always fun and interesting.

who is your favorite DC Comics Superhero and and why?

Well, I'll go with a response once removed and say Sheldon of The Big Bang Theory.

What do you like most to be a member of the CTP program?

I'm finally not alone. It took sweeping the world, but it is there at least a few other marginal like me there! The best part is to be part of the strategy and technology development at Citrix. After a few years, we now see shipping architectures / features that are the result of the product CTP feedback. This is particularly exciting for me because I'm all about the creative work, practical system for our customers to have a direct link between the field and product strategy / DEV is fantastic.

What scientific (any field, past or present) do you most admire and why?

Newton to be able to understand how the physical world macro actually works with only a pencil and an apple and Einstein to be able to understand what is really happening with just a brain.

which was the largest Citrix deployment you have architected / implemented, and what was the takeaway?

I tend to measure large not so much by the number of users, but by the impact. Some of my favorites are hospital systems such as Mayo Clinic where accelerating the delivery days of application / weeks seconds actually help save lives. Other favorites are the great colleges we did (10s of thousands of users), where simply by enrolling in a class that you gain access to the applications you need from anywhere, on any device. Another was COX Communications where we are a "work at home" very effective program that became the model for many other companies and real benefits for the economy, lifestyle, etc.

who is your favorite character in the Star Wars saga and why?

which is far-Gon Jinn in Episode One, it was the first and best character who seemed really what a Jedi should be. I just wanted that he had ducked ...
