A beginner bookshelf for virtualizing CAD / CAE / PLM, from graphics to ... a dirty dozen! -

My background is in geometric kernel engineering for CAD / CAE / PLM work for the best part of a decade on the Parasolid kernel from Siemens PLM. Then I moved to the engineering project on the Citrix GPUs (vgpu) with our joint collaboration with NVIDIA to virtualize their GRID technologies. As such, I am one of a number of people at Citrix in recent years from a graphic / CAD background rented a rather than a conventional virtualization / networking or VDI. Now I'm somewhat random, a XenDesktop product manager specializing in graphics, HDX 3D Pro, pressure compression and peripherals (all these beautiful CAD friendly haptics)

In no particular order or preference .:

1) Numerical Recipes, The Art of Scientific Programming - William H. Press et al

This classic is available online now. If you really want as geometric algorithms work and know the cost of graphic algorithms, this is a must. With code examples that allow you to work the theoretical cost of operations is O (n), the cost of compression algorithms like FFT and numerical relaxations on geometry.

2) Applied Geometry for Computer Graphics and CAD (Springer Bachelor Mathematics Series) - Duncan Marsh

concentrating on the manipulation and representation of geometric objects, this book explores the application of geometry in computer graphics and computer-Aided Design (CAD). With more than 300 practical exercises (math problems). Duncan is indeed here a software engineer in Cambridge, UK on the Dassault (Spatial) ACIS kernel that underpins many consumers CAD title. Spatial ACIS Engineers also conduct a brilliant blog, developer-2 developers, full insight into CAD algorithms, code and ideas on CUDA and SMP use.

3) SIGGRAPH 2014 Papers on the network of Ke-sen Huang

SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques) is the name of the annual conference on computer graphics (CG) of the ACM SIGGRAPH organization convened. If you can not get there, Summary Ke-sen is a brilliant Index in the cutting algorithms should all do with CAD / 3D software vigilant

4) The NURBS Book -. Les A Piegl

Most reputable CAD packages and many are replaced graphic, model geometry mathematical constructions is known used as NURBS (Non-uniform rational B-splines). This is a hard-core math book and I would not even suggest trying to take it as an introduction to attack, even without a degree of Bachelor Mathematics. want However, if you really understand software loads CAD makes on virtualized systems or GPU driver to understand the basic geometry, is a must

5) The Timeless Racer :. Machine time travel Speed Junkie - Daniel Simon

If you want to understand what makes a tick CAD user or engineer, it's this book. Daniel Simon is one of the most amazing guys I've ever met, to watching Develop3D Live 2014 I him individually each book someone bought illustrate (turning a 1-hour signing at 6 hours of exercise). Simon worked as a senior designer for Bugatti Automobiles. In 07 his first book, Cosmic Motors, was released to open the doors Hollywood: he was vehicle concept designer on the feature film Tron: Legacy. CAD software is not only software for many users, it is art, it is visual, it is user experience and creative imagination. This book explains that, and what should we in the VDI strive for CAD users

6) CUDA by. Example: An Introduction to General-Purpose GPU Programming - Jason Sanders and Edward Kandrot

Written by two senior members of the NVIDIA CUDA own software platform team showing these programmers how this new technology to deal with by working examples. What I liked was that it includes algorithms that CUDA and others that why can not a benefit. This makes it particularly useful for access to what kind of ISV applications are likely increasingly to start with GPU performance

7) image processing and data analysis: The Paperback Multiscale Approach - Jean-Luc Starck, Fionn D. Murtagh , Albert Bijaoui

This is one of the few textbooks that provide an adequate overview of wavelet and multiscale image analysis and compression. Wavelets are a kind of a super-set of Fourier analysis and are more like how the human eye works, includes localized basis functions and down to break things into several scales; great features and then smaller, all correlate.

Nikola Bozinovic founder and CEO of mainframe2 is a former astrophysicist with a background in the wavelet compression of video, so that a knowledge of the wavelet theory, you should leave his scientific publications explore. The history of visual magic

8) in Computers: How Beautiful photos are made in CAD, 3D, VR and AR - Jon Peddie

Jon Peddie * Veteran CAD / Graphics is an analyst, formally President of SIGGRAPH. When he and his team of analysts observe it, it is usually worth seeing. He has written a number of groundbreaking books and this latest, a good read for someone from a background virtualization is coming a place a graphic / CAD, as it fills in the story and developed the direction of the technologies and how they and the organizations , and fit together today. Jon even recommended reading also another source of CAD History: David Weisberg is (free) book (http://www.cadhistory.net/).

9) Mathematical Methods of Physics and Technology (3rd Edition): A Comprehensive Guide - Riley, Hobson and Bence

was actually written this book from my doctor, so I'm a little biased as intuitive and comprehensive it is. Mike Hobson addition to his work as a lecturer / professor / PhD supervisor also a founder of Geomerics astronomical imaging algorithms to use was to bring real-time radiosity to Battlefield 3 and the Playstation. Most Cambridge graduates use this textbook, and it covers the basic math behind many image compression techniques. If you ever have to explain Fourier artifacts in JPEG compression, this is useful. Many CAD and PDM search tools are based to Fourier like feature analysis, and this should give the background to read papers on indexing, analyzing and looking for CAD parts, as these

10) Mathematica® .: a problem -centered Approach (Springer undergraduate Mathematics Series) - Roozbeh Hazrat

For a lot of people understand, graphical algorithms, a package such as Mathematica, Matlab or MAPLE is an interesting way with graphic algorithms play with. For whichever package that I choose, I tend to get a primer to get started, since there is an abundance (almost too much) of advanced online material and "Code Samples" online. When I would get your hands on a license for such a package would highly recommend it. There are a lot of CAD and 3D functionality in a package such as Mathematica NURBS and much Community code example "Design a car body", "Image Warping", "2-D Cellular Automaton on a Triangulated Surface"

11) The Art of Product Design: Change How Things purchase - Hardi Meybaum

Hardi Meybaum is the founder and CEO of GrabCad, the largest community of mechanical engineers and designers (A cloud-based PDM platform for the management and with> 1 million users CAD-sharing). How does a child from Estonia, with a bright idea virtually no Kroon ($$$) to his name and a good idea for CAD on cloud to move to Silicon Valley and with the likes of Dassault and Siemens PLM on his door at the end beat ? Break the traditional CAD delivery model and end CEO of one of the hottest business models in CAD-up? High-level and accessible in this book gives an insight into how to modify CAD and end users and to accept cloud.

12) The STEP and IGES specifications

CAD software often translated from a data geometry and topology format to another. These two open standards reveal the very manner defined in the CAD parts replaced and as referred to in the topology geometry. I often see people surprised that what such a simple cylinder looks is a very long time to make, if they have failed to notice the cylinder, in fact, is a degree of n = 19, Catia v4 B surface. I'm sorry, these are probably not going to enjoy reading your life to be, but I promise you will learn a lot if you can break through the pain barrier.

* On October 30 th 2014 Citrix the first Jon Peddie "virtualize" conference sponsorship; especially to those who are looking to virtualize 3D Graphical, CAD / CAE and PLM / PDM workloads, for those who want to hear from experts in both areas this could be an excellent opportunity for your new bookshelf and final reading to discuss:

virtualize: Ready or Not
remote workstations? Access to graphic resources remotely?
Why would you use it? How to implement it? What is latency?

The virtualization conference are your questions and provide real world guidance for industry professionals who are looking for ways to respond to greater efficiency in their organizations through virtualization technologies. reach

The conference will be an opening tutorial, lectures and panel discussions of people have to work virtualization make in their organization

A working lunch will be there will enable you to get direct information from vendors offering virtualization tools and products. - Virtualize the people that these technologies are experiences with your peers to work and share

In the afternoon sessions will look at the future, what is to come in the rapidly changing world of virtualization and what do you need to know, and to be willing to do.

virtualize conference will be for both principles of advantage that the set strategic direction for their organization as well as for early adopters responsible for implementing. View our talented Panel, learn more about the conference and at :. virtualization agenda and registration
