Survey Results

We wanted we published with you a brief summary of the results from the WAN survey Post a few weeks ago. We had a very positive response to the survey and we would like to send you a big thank you for it. We have now analyzed the results to draw WAN connections to customers have offices species. Some clients have multiple WAN links to branch offices, so that the number of data points is greater than the number of answers to some customers, the more types of WAN links affected by

Some interesting high datapoints .:

  • A high number of answers, where the latency was quite high> 0 ms.
  • satellite links were quite high, 19% of customers they have.
  • Dial up is short supply with only 6% of customers still using dial-up
  • , the majority of the bandwidth in 1Mbit / s was -. Area s 20Mbit / although quite a few customers of 100Mbit / s and very high bandwidth connections or more definitely the most popular
  • for Citrix services.
  • are leased lines, endpoints in the branches are the most popular
  • high proportion of VDAS / DDC / XenApp server in branches
  • More than half of the responses showed customers used QOS on WAN links

WAN Techology types

We asked the question, what kind of WAN connections you have in your business between offices / locations?

from the chart about his clear line technique Leased are used in the majority of cases with different types of T1> T4. DSL was also used quite strong probably because it cheaper, although not a dedicated P2P Link on competition conditions dependent. Satellite also seemed quite high to be used for remote offices. Items that fell into the category "Others" include Ethernet, 3G, cable, MPLS and Fibre.

WAN bandwidth between offices

We have asked the question, what is the typical bandwidth on the WAN links? Respondents could choose more than one option if they had multiple WAN connections.

What we can see from this graph, most of the WAN bandwidth is, falls within the 1Mbit / s> 20Mbit / s range. Nevertheless, there is a large number of customers who have to deal with much higher bandwidth between offices Links. The important result of this question is that of the responses that we have received the bandwidth of its WAN links, ranged from <256Kb/s –>> 5Gbps / s. This is important because it shows the diversity of compounds that customers use that. also the use of our products

WAN latency between branches

We have asked the question of what is the typical latency on WAN links? Respondents could choose more than one option again, if they have different latency multiple connections.

What's with this chart is interesting, there are a large number of customers who have the links in the 0-> 100 ms range, but there are also a large number of customers who have WAN connections with latency over> 0 ms.

Citrix services in branches

We asked the question of what Citrix services / components are located in the branches? Customers could choose more than one if they had a number of services.

Obviously most offices have endpoints, but a fairly high number also VDAS or are planning to put on VDAS there. Recent discussions with Citrix Consulting Services, and from the customer to the Citrix user groups, DDCs in a data center and VDAS in a branch office, the other increasingly likely. Existing XenApp customers have used this model to meeting hosts local endpoint for the performance.

We also have information recorded with respect to QOS priority traffic on WAN links

Obviously ICA and voice are the winner here with our customers. WAN optimization technologies were also quite prevalent.

Conclusion

We hope that there will be enough information in the survey results, you are giving a high view of the types of WAN-client relationships with our products and even the species of traffic passing over it. The results also provide insight into the type of services, the customer's run in the stores and also helps to reinforce our expectations. worn with all these statements, in we can not only build some of this information to our own workflow end-to-end testing stories but these results will also help provide some thoughts for other individual feature owners and how they might their functions otherwise interact depending on whether XenDesktop is used over a LAN or WAN.

We'd like to hear all the comments you may have about this blog.
